Ten years ago, I was honored to present our initiative at a memorial
to Buckminster Fuller at United States International University. In attendance
was an engineer and Rotarian affiliated with the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise
Rotary Club (San Diego, CA). My dad had been a Rotarian for 40 years,
so I knew the great people and projects they performed around the world.
After my talk at the local club, they asked how Rotary might assist.
Since an important element of GENI involves education, they decided to
sponsor GENI's exhibit at Rotary International Conventions for the past
8 years. With 1.2 million members from 200 nations, we've been able to
share our message to socially conscience business leaders from around
the world.
Today, I proudly share with you a feature
story (3 MB .pdf - see page
11 of 15) on GENI in this month's Rotarian
Magazine.
GENI has also been a member of ACORE,
the American Council on Renewable Energy, helping push the agenda of tapping
abundant renewable energy resources and interconnecting those resources
into the expanding electric energy grid. ACORE's
President testified before the US Senate Subcommittee on Science, Technology
and Innovation saying we must "build infrastructure for
a more sustainable society with long-term incentives to catalyze investment
in new renewable power, and a modernized electric transmission network
similar to our national highway system... " That's our
core message to every nation!
It's great to get the acknowledgment and critical that our message reach
these policy-makers. More important is to actually shift to clean energy
technologies that reduce our demand on fossil fuels while reducing our
greenhouse gas emissions. We agree that a 10-fold increase in renewable
investment and R&D is needed, and encourage you to join us. It's a
strategy that's "beneficial to all concerned" , one of
Rotary's key tests for any business.
