Availability of standardized evaluations
of the wind energy potential
Wind energy
potential can not easily be shown in simple overwiew
maps. The following maps indicate the countries
for which wind energy evaluations are available.
These have been carried out by means of a standardized
method developped by the danish Risų Laboratory.

Note: This
map was prepared by the US-DOE in 1985 using wind
data compiled in 1980. We now know that much
of the data was based on meteorological station
data that underestimated wind resources because
of poor exposure and inadequate maintenance of the
wind speed sensors (anemometers). Many areas shown
as Class 1 actually have more wind resources than
indicated. Please use this map with caution.
