The Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity’s 10th Annual Session was held, Tuesday, at the Headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
“The Arab-wide electricity grid is the most important point of discussion for the Council,†said Mohamed Ibn Ibrahim Al-Tuwayjri, the assistant secretary general for economic affairs at the Arab League, prior to the meeting.
The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) provided the Council with recent developments on electrical linkage systems for Arab countries, and trading electricity and gas feasibility among them, as well possibilities for trading electricity with other markets. It also put forward the Arab-wide grid’s project consultant recommendations to the Council.
The Arab-wide electricity grid project study is expected to be completed by June 2013, according to an Arab League statement on Tuesday.
“The World Bank has set up the third part regarding legal, institutional, and legislative frameworks in order to complete Arab electricity interconnection projects,†Al-Tuwayjri added.
