May 15, 2011 - Xinhua - energycentral.com
A new law that encourages energy production from renewable sources entered into force in Bulgaria on Tuesday.
The state will encourage developers to build green power plants by buying their electricity at preferential prices for a period of 12 years for wind energy, 15 years for hydro energy, and 20 years for solar and biomass energy, according to the legislation.
A recent report issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy and Energy said that 15 percent of the electrical energy used in the country was generated by renewable energy sources in 2010.
Almost 87 percent of the green energy was produced by hydroelectric power plants, and 12.5 percent by wind power plants, the report said.
