Project Focus: Iberdrola signs PPAs in Arizona and Colorado

Oct 22, 2010 - Syanne Olson - pv-tech.org

In what Iberdrola Renewables calls one of its first solar project in the U.S., the company has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Salt River Project (SRP) for 20MW of solar PV from the Pinal County facility. This third contract between the two companies will see SRP purchase all solar energy produced at the Copper Crossing Solar Ranch, which is anticipated to begin production in June 2011.

“Iberdrola Renewables is delighted to partner for the third time with SRP, this time for one of the largest utility-scale projects in Arizona,” said Martin Mugica, executive vice president of Iberdrola Renewables. “SRP has been a leader in bringing clean, renewable energy to Arizona, by purchasing the output of the first commercial-scale wind farms in the state and now with this, one of Iberdrola Renewables’ first solar projects.”

In addition to the Arizona project, Iberdrola released that it also signed a 30MW solar power sale in Colorado for an undisclosed project that is to begin construction later this year.
