A consortium led by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has won a bid to develop Australia’s largest solar power plant. The tender – launched by the Australian government – is for a 150MW system near the town of Moree in New South Wales.
Construction of the plant is due to begin in 2012, with electricity produced sold to the country’s National Electricity Market. BP Solar and Pacific Hydro are the other stakeholders in the consortium.
“The Moree Solar Farm is a very exciting project for FRV and provides a platform for FRV to expand in Australia,’ FRV CEO Rafael Benjumea said. “Australia has enormous and largely untapped potential as a major solar power producer so we see our investment in Australia as a long-term commitment.”
