A group of universities in Chile have joined forces to propose the establishment
of a new national solar research centre.
The Chilean Solar Research Centre, or SERC-Chile,
will have a particular emphasis on exploring the potential of developing
solar power in the Atacama Desert, and the organisations behind the
initiative hope it will establish itself as a world leader in solar
research. |
The new centre has been proposed by the University of Chile, along with the University
of Tarapaca, Antofagasta University, the Technical University Federico Santa
Maria, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Universidad de Concepción and Fundación Chile.
The project has an anticipated lifetime of five years, extendable to 10.
