Major Announcement On "Clean Energy Backbone"
Expected By Western Governors At San Diego Summit
On Monday
A major announcement on Western clean energy infrastructure
project is expected to be unveiled next week by several
Western Governors at the New Frontier Power Summit,
a summit meeting on electricity transmission that
kicks off on Monday April 17th at the Coronado Island
Marriott Resort in San Diego.
The announcement will be related to the Frontier
Line, a proposed $5-$7 billion high-voltage electric
transmission line that would interconnect California,
Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. The Governors of those states
-- Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA), Kenny Guinn (R-NV),
Jon Huntsman (R-UT) and Dave Freudenthal (D-WY) --
unveiled their vision for the Frontier Line one year
ago.
Representatives of the Governors' offices have called
the Frontier Line a "critical clean energy backbone
for the West" and “the single largest clean
energy-enabling infrastructure project ever proposed
for our region.”
It is envisioned by the Governors that the project
would ultimately allow the delivery of thousands of
megawatts of power from renewable energy and clean
coal resources from the Intermountain West to fast-growing
population centers in Utah, Nevada and California.
