Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya Ministers to Convene Over Power InterconnectionFeb 27, 2007 Xinhua Energy ministers from Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya are scheduled to meet here next month to discuss the implementation of the proposed power interconnection project among the three countries, Times of Zambia reported on Tuesday. Zambia's Energy and Water Development Minister Felix Mutati was quoted by the newspaper as saying the three ministers are expected to agree on the tariff structure to be used on the power interconnector before the project could start. Mutati said the project would be undertaken in two phases and power would be transmitted through a 330 kv line from Zambia's Serenje to Tanzania's Arusha through to Nairobi, Kenya. An estimated 400 million U.S. dollars were required to complete the project linking the three countries, according to the minister. He said the power transmission advisor was currently preparing necessary financial documents which would be presented at the meeting. Various logistics on the implementation of the project would also be discussed at the meeting, Mutati said. (c) 2007 Xinhua News Agency |
