Alvaro GarciaAfter graduating high school and with no work experience, I felt I needed to do something that would help in the local community. I was searching for a non-profit or environmentally related organization and found GENI. This is a great non-profit institute that thinks globally and was frankly more than I could ask for. Before joining GENI in late November 2007, I took most software for granted. Now, I have not only enhanced my skills with Microsoft Office Excel and Adobe Acrobat, but through great mentors, I have gained skills and confidence that will help me in college and in my career. Working at GENI has truly been a "trial and error" scenario for me, where research and attention to detail stretched my ability to cope with patience. I will be forever thankful for the experience that I now hold as a great asset. This experience enhanced my awareness of global issues, like cross-border electric grid connections or the burden to small island states of importing oil, which were my two main projects. These are things I never previously thought about or even considered to have an effect in my life. I now understand how much they do.
