2000 working for a better world
Dear GENI
Friend,
Wasn't
New Year's Eve a grand global celebration.
We watched over 24 hours as each time zone rolled
over. Anxious computer managers kept all night vigils
but the lights stayed on and the
interconnected electrical grid worked!
More people
are aware of our integrated society than any other
time, and we hope to capitalize on this fact. I'd
like to share our goals for this year, which we believe
will accelerate every nation towards a more prosperous
economy and sustainable environment.
The
GENI 2000 Game Plan is ambitious. We have brought
together the U.S. Dept. of Energy and City of San
Diego to host the next APEC
(Asian Pacific Economic Coperation) Energy Ministers
Meeting in May. We will be mailing to the top 5 leaders
in 200 nations as a lead up the United
Nations Millennium Assembly. And the Bucky
Fuller theater production will offer daily exposure
through our exhibit, and the opportunity to broaden
that exposure as the play opens in other cities. These
are the big trimtab events, and the full agenda is
enclosed.
We began
this millennium with revitalized dreams for ourselves,
our family and our community. You are unique in that
your commitment extends to the global community. Together,
our voice is getting more effective with each conference,
each endorsement, each conversation. Thank you for
being a critical part of this work.
In partnership
for the planet,
Peter Meisen
President
p.s. Most
of us can't remember a time without electricity, telephones
or refrigeration. Just 100 years ago, few people had
any modern conveniences. From Robert
Samuelson's op-ed, our goal is to extend these
societal benefits to over 2 billion people who remain
unserved. Obviously we have the know-how
but lack both political stability and will. That's
what The GENI Initiative is all about.
