Days in May that Changed the World
Dear GENI
Friend,
This past
week, GENI was at the center of the global energy
debate right in San Diego and we had
many personal discussions with policy-makers from
around the world. San Diego hosted the 21
Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
energy ministers plus the Latin
American energy community. The Associated Press,
UPI, Reuters, Dow-Jones all had reporters covering
these international meetings. GENI was mentioned
in one Associated Press feature.
We had
two personal conversations with US Energy Secretary
Bill Richardson. At one meeting, I asked if he could
assist with the North/South Korean interconnection
that you read here last month. At that same presentation,
the Secretary made one of the most passionate and
clear statements ever towards developing nations:
If
there's one message we can send to future generations
in the developing world it's Don't pollute
the way we did in the industrialized world.
While oil
prices hit $30 per barrel, galvanizing everyone on
the short term price of a gallon of gasoline
Secretary Richardson strongly advocates for renewable
energy development. He promotes the investment in
wind, geothermal, biomass and solar. He prods
the car companies to deliver the new electric and
hybrid vehicles at a price the public can afford.
The United States Energy Secreatry is pushing The
GENI Initiative!
In both
events, we were offered prime exhibit locations. This
movable office allows us to bring the best visual
and printed materials on site, and have meaningful
conversations on our turf. And our banner GENI
- A Compelling Global Strategy - www.geni.org
was seen by every delegate a dozen times as they walked
through the hotel.
You and
I are caretakers of a critical cause. In the next
three weeks, GENI is being represented at theNGO
Millennium Forum at the United Nations and the
Rotary
International convention in Buenos Aires.
It's the opportunity to build on the momentum of these
energy ministerials and expand/enroll business people
and activists from around the world. Thank you for
your
commitment to help drive this accelerating awareness.
In partnership
for the planet,
Peter Meisen
President
