Remember
Y2K — where some predicted the energy grid would
fail, computers would freeze and food shipments delayed?
Well the world survived — and many people thrived
in a booming global economy. Unfortunately, the rich/poor
gap widened for both struggling nations and individuals.
The topic
of energy became a priority as deregulation created
huge price spikes in California, natural gas prices
jumped and gasoline prices hit U.S.$2.00/gallon (cheap
by European standards). The image of the US Energy
Secretary asking OPEC (oil producing nations) to increase
production speaks loudly about our universal addiction
to fossil fuels.
Amidst
this, GENI had our best year ever in gaining awareness
and global commitment:
