Momentum – mass in motion
that gains speed and becomes an unstoppable
force.
Solar and wind development has gained such
momentum that the industry is doubling every
2 years. In the United States, solar and
wind projects were half of all new generation
capacity in 2012. Global investment in
2012 was $248 billion and economists project
this to double by 2022.
The
renewables industry has achieved momentum
– with both speed and global reach are expanding.
Global photovoltaic (PV) module prices have
fallen 62% since January 2011, and the solar industry is on track to install
another 100 gigawatts worldwide by 2015 -- nearly doubling solar capacity in
the next 2.5 years.
The
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
expects the
price of solar will be competitive with gas
in a decade.
The
Worldwatch Institute highlights the
policies
– especially the Feed in Tariff – that provide
support to this growth trend.

We are now seeing dramatic impacts from our fossil
fuel addiction of the last century: stronger storms, increased flooding, devastating
droughts. The solution is here now – build renewables everywhere, build them
at record speed, and interconnect them to optimize efficiency and economy.
