Bioenergy in LATIN AMERICA
The map above indicates the productive forest
area in relation to the total area of the countries.
The map shows the fuelwood production in
the different countries. The values are expressed
in (metric) tonnes per capita. The energy equivalent
of one tonne of wood is roughly 3.8 MWh.
The values are based on the Survey of Energy Resources
2004, published by the World Energy Council WEC
(forest area: Survey 2001). They have been used
with permission of the editor Elsevier, Oxford.

The map above shows the availability of sugar
cane bagasse in the different countries. The
values are expressed in (metric) tonnes per capita.
The energy equivalent of one tonne of bagasse is
roughly 2.5 MWh.
The energy potential reaches an interesting level
in the sugar producing countries.
The values are based on the Survey of Energy Resources
2004, published by the World Energy Council WEC.
