China's power generation capacity will exceed
600,000 megawatts (MW) by the end of this year,
the China Electricity Council (CEC) announced on Monday.
Wang Yonggan, secretary-general of the CEC, predicted
that generators with 80,000 MW in installed capacity
would begin operation this year.
More than 60,000 MW worth of generators began operation
in China in the first three quarters, including 6,900
MW of hydropower and 52,800 MW of coal-fired power.
This represents record growth in electricity generation
capacity, according to Wang.
