Myanmar to export power to Bangladesh

Oct 20, 2010 - Xinhua

Myanmar has agreed with Bangladesh to build two hydropower plants in western Rakhine state to export a total of 575 megawatts (mw) of electricity to Bangladesh, local media reported Thursday.

Myanmar has secured the power export to Bangladesh through the promise of a Bangladeshi delegation that visited Myanmar recently. The delegation included top officials from the power ministry and power development Board (PDB) of Bangladesh.

The two power plants having a generating capacity of 500 mw and 75 mw respectively are planned to be installed at Michuang and Lemro areas in Rakhine state adjacent to Bangladesh's Cox's Bazaar.

It is the very first time that Bangladesh is cooperating with Myanmar for power project.
