Spain-based Solarpack Corporacion Tecnologica was recently awarded a contract to supply energy to northern Chile's Collahuasi copper mine. According to a statement emailed to Bloomberg from Compania Minera Dona Ines de Collahuasi, the company will deliver 60,000MWh of energy a year from two solar plants, beginning in Q4 2013.

Solarpack intends to begin building the solar plants at the end of the year in the Tarapaca region. The mining company called for bids for the power contract last year, receiving 10 proposals. Solarpack previously won a contract to build a 1MW solar plant for the state-run Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile's facilities at Chuquicamata in November 2010.
