
India to invest US$27 billion in wind
power in next four years

With the thrust on renewable sources of energy increasing,
investment in wind power generation will touch Rs
1320 billion (US$27 billion) in the next four years,
says Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association
(IWTMA). "The installed capacity of wind power in
the country by the end of year 2012 would reach 22,000
MW, at an investment of Rs 1320 billion," IWTMA chairman
D V Giri told reporters here.
* The current installed capacity of wind power in
the country is nearly 9,600 MW and capacity addition
of over 11,000 MW is expected by the end of XIth Five-Year
Plan (2007-12).
* "A total of 216 potential locations have so far
been identified in 13 states and union territories
which could be considered suitable for installation
of wind turbines," Minister of State for Renewable
Energy Vilas Muttemwar said.
