Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator Launches Renewable Energy Gateway

Sep 4, 2009 - North American Windpower

The Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (Midwest ISO) has launched the Renewable Energy Gateway, an information hub focusing on renewable energy sources in the Midwest ISO region. The site looks at renewable sources such as wind, biomass and hydro and provides information supporting integration of these resources into the region.

This gateway is a one-stop collection of information, providing access to transmission planning information, real-time wind output and the current status of the generator interconnection queue, the process by which proposed generation projects are reviewed and approved.

"The site is designed to provide information on the efforts of the Midwest ISO and its stakeholders to integrate wind energy and other renewable resources into the electric grid," says Renuka Chatterjee, director of transmission utilization at Midwest ISO.

Visitors can learn about the Regional Generation Outlet Study, which determines how much and where renewable generation and transmission should be built to meet Midwestern renewable portfolio standards; identify how to connect and become involved in the process through efforts such as the Wind Integration Initiative; examine transmission planning studies; and find current renewable energy news.
