Central Asian nations are working together
on electricity issues. The fourth session of the Coordination
Council on Power Industry of Central Asia was recently concluded.
The first deputy chairman and chief engineer of the Tajik
electricity company said the heads of electricity companies
from the member states, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in the session. According
to him, during the session an agreement was reached between
                      Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
Turkmenistan will supply Tajikistan with about
1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually until 2010.
The issue of electricity supply from Uzbekistan has not
been resolved. However, nearly 600 million kilowatt-hours
could be sent from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan in the near
                      future.
Turkmenistan may also be joining the organization
                      soon, Kazinform refers to UPI.
