
Pakistan Economic Council Approves Power Import
From Iran

The Executive Committee of the National Economic
Council (ECNEC) on Wednesday [19 September] approved
3,664m rupees including foreign exchange component
of 1,934m rupees for import of 100MW electricity from
Iran for Gwadar [port] and laying of transmission
line for this purpose.
The council also approved an amount of 4,777.03m
rupees including foreign exchange component of 1,890.92m
rupees for development of renewable energy in NWFP
[North West Frontier Province] province.
Similarly, an amount of 4,001m rupees including foreign
exchange component of 1,090.2m rupees, has also been
approved for renewable energy development sector investment
programme (construction of Marala Hydel Power Station).
The ECNEC also approved the acquisition and development
of land, and construction of office building and accommodation
facilities for nuclear power plant supplier of KANUPP-2
project for the generation of 8,800 MW of electricity.
The council also approved the compensation to the
flood affectees of Mirani Dam area while the ECNEC
also approved amount for water conservation and productivity
enhancement through efficiency irrigation system.
The council approved an amount of 10,675m rupees
including foreign exchange component of 9,162.2m rupees
for Sindh water sector improvement project phase-I.
