CPUC Approves Southern California Edison Tehachapi Transmission Project
Dec 18, 2009 - Renew Grid
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has approved Southern California Edison's (SCE) application to build segments of its Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) - the first major transmission project in California designed specifically to access multiple renewable generation sources.
SCE notes that it already has started building the first three segments of the TRTP, including new and upgraded high-voltage transmission lines. When all the project's phases are complete, the TRTP will feature lines capable of delivering 4,500 MW of electricity to market.
"TRTP not only would facilitate the interconnection of new wind generation, but also will improve grid reliability to help meet the state's growing demand for electricity from renewable resources," comments Les Starck, SCE’s vice president of local public affairs.
