China's State Grid starts building Sichuan-Shanghai
transmission network

BEIJING: State Power Grid
Corp, one of the China's two major state-owned power
transmission firms, has started constructing a 800
kv direct current power transmission network, linking
Sichuan province in the southwest of the country
to Shanghai.
The project, which is slated to come online in 2011,
involves total investment of about 18 bln yuan, the
company said in a statement.
The project is designed to transmit electricity produced
by the Xiangjiaba hydropower station on the Jinsha
River in Sichuan to eastern provinces.
China started constructing the Xiangjiaba hydropower
station at the end of last year . It will have installed
capacity of six mln kilowatts with annual electricity
output of 30.75 bln kWh.
