Iraq to get electricity from Jordan, Egypt
2005, Al Bawaba
Jordan and Egypt have agreed on providing
Western Iraq with electrical energy, separately from
the Iraqi national electricity grid, reported the
Jordanian newspaper. The
general manager of the Jordanian electricity company,
Dr. Ahmad Hayasat, said that a transformation line
of 132 kilo volt and by length of 200 kilometers will
be constructed to connect between Al-Raysha Transformation
Station adjacent to the Jordanian-Iraqi borders and
Akashat region in Western Iraq.
He added that the Iraqi ministry
of electricity agreed with Electro Energy Company,
which is owned by Iraqi investors, that it will accomplish
the construction works of this line, while the Jordanian
electricity company will be responsible for the consultancy
works to the investor.
Hayasat added that the formal institutions
in Jordan, Egypt and Iraq are expected to agree upon
the procedural steps towards energy exports from Jordan
and Egypt to Iraq. Jordan will provide electricity
to Iraq either from its self resources or through
imports, clarified Hayasat.
