ABB Receives $350 Million Cable Order To Connect UK, Dutch GridsMay 22, 2007 Dow Jones & Company, Inc Switzerland-based electrical engineering company ABB Ltd. (ABB) Tuesday said it has received an order worth $350 million for a high- voltage connection between the power grids of the U.K. and the Netherlands. ABB said the contract was awarded by the U.K.'s National Grid PLC (NG.LN) and state-owned TenneT in the Netherlands. The 260-kilometer link, dubbed BritNed, will allow energy trading between the two countries and increase the reliability of electricity supplies to both, ABB said. Under the terms of the contract, ABB said it will supply the underwater and underground cables for the high-voltage direct current link. The system will have a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts and will be commissioned in 2010.
