Black & Veatch receives safety award from PG&E for major power transmission project

Jan 9, 2007 energycentral.com

Black & Veatch was recently awarded the 2006 Supplier Safety Award by Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) in connection with engineering, procurement and construction work on one of the longest 230-Kilovolt (kV) underground transmission projects in the United States. PG&E's Jefferson-Martin project in the San Francisco Peninsula logged more than 1.3 million safe work hours on the project. The project comprised 24 miles of underground and 3.5 miles of overhead transmission line construction. PG&E energized the Jefferson-Martin 230-kV in 2006. "We are very honored to have received the PG&E safety award," said Orville Finnigan, Vice President and Project Director for Black & Veatch. "The award recognizes the efforts of everyone involved in this project and the collaborative approach established by PG&E." The transmission project provides 400 megawatts of electricity -- enough energy to power about 300,000 typical homes. The line increases capacity and improves reliability for the growing areas of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County.
