GLOBAL ENERGY NETWORK INSTITUTE

a solution to global problems

25 April 1997

World Peace, astronaut Russell Schweickart, and Robert Muller, Asst Sec Gen of the U.N.(retired)

Dear GENI Friend,

World Peace — it's something we all desire, yet oftentimes seems so far away. The headlines and TV news stories are constantly reminding us of the strife in so many places.

The GENI Initiative is about peace on the planet. First, we offer the perspective from outer space — by astronaut Russell Schweickart:

Beyond Borders: When you go around the Earth in an hour and a half, you begin to recognize that your identity is with the whole thing. And that makes a change.

You look down there and you can't imagine how many borders and boundaries you cross, again and again and again, and you don't even see them. There you are — hundreds of people in the Middle East killing each other over some imaginary line that you're not even aware of, that you can't see. And from where you see it, the thing is a whole, and it's so beautiful. You wish you could take one person from each side of the various conflicts, and say, Look. Look at it from this perspective. Look at the that. What's important?

We are blessed that one of our Honorary Advisors is Robert Muller, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations (retired), who served the UN for 40 years. He's a warrior for peace and has supported GENI for many years. Several excerpts from his new book 2000 Ideas are attached — where he has strongly endorsed this strategy for peace and sustainable development.

Please use these statements in your conversations with others. Many people hold Robert Muller in the highest esteem and will listen to his recommendations. Your continued support and speaking makes this idea real in the world. Thank you for helping us make peace on the planet.

In partnership for the planet,

Peter Meisen
President

p.s. Robert Muller also forwarded the excerpt from "Visions of a Better World", where UK Scientist Neil Shendge states his endoresment for the global grid using renewable resources. Where could you publish these and your own vision for a better world?
