GLOBAL ENERGY NETWORK INSTITUTE

a solution to global problems

30 July 2001

GENI Exhibit at the World Energy Congress — working to ameliorate the experts prediction of 5 degree increase in next 100 years

Dear GENI Friend,

The daily news often seems a constant struggle between hopeful choices and persistent trends that threaten all of us. Last week, 178 nations agreed to the Kyoto Treaty to cut greenhouse gases to 5% of 1990 levels -- but the United States choose to walk from the treaty as it would hurt the economy. The U.S. has 5% of the world's population, but causes 25% of the total pollution.

Some of the world's best scientists have been working to better define the implications of climate change. While prediction is never exact, their warning is dire: a 5°F temperature increase will cause more droughts, floods, heat waves, tropical disease migration, crop failure and wildlife disruption.

With energy use growing with population, the experts and our political leaders seem fated to this outcome. Yet, the GENI Initiative offers a compelling transition towards a renewable energy future -- as opposed to the fossil fuel addiction that prevails today.

As you have recently seen, the first half of the GENI strategy has been embraced -- the interconnection of power networks between regions and nations. Now we could use your assistance in pushing the renewable energy argument before the Energy Ministers of the world.

The World Energy Congress (WEC) meets in three months in Buenos Aires. GENI has reserved an exhibit space -- offering us the opportunity to talk face-to-face with the world's energy leaders. We could use your special assistance, as this is the most costly event that we attend. We are also preparing a new CD ROM video presentation for these power brokers.

Please consider an extra contribution this month towards our WEC exhibit. This event only comes around every 3 years, and it's where every decision-maker convenes for that week. Our job is to offer an alternative strategy to these executives -- one where they can also make a return on their investment. In that sprit, I hope you continue to be proud of your investment in GENI.

In partnership for the planet,

Peter Meisen
President
